Elisabetta Accoto
I am a conceptual artist, lover of experimentation and research in the visual arts. In 2000 I obtained a Degree in Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce with the installation and thesis "The secret of things" inspired by the concept of "absence" in the works of the artist Domenico Gnoli. Following a master's degree in Entertainment Manager, a specialization in "Expert in the Promotion, Enhancement and Protection of Artistic Heritage", two post-graduate degrees in teaching of artistic disciplines and elements of artistic teaching.
My work is a continuous experimentation, born way back in 2000, when my father, a metalworker, brings home some scraps of metal dust and on metal sheets I began to create my first works, representing large engraved metal envelopes, installed one in front of the other with their open content made of faces, words, letters printed with acids. I titled my first series of metals "Mondo Sorriso", that is, letters sent to humanity without a specific recipient.
I have exhibited in solo and group national and international exhibitions, my professional and artistic path has allowed me to work at the Schools of Arts and Crafts of the Municipality and of Rome Capital, where I taught the disciplines of mosaic and figurative arts from 2008 to 2017. Later, I improved my teaching with the transition to a role in drawing and art history for Secondary School of I and II degree at the Ministry of Education and Merit.
My metallic works allude to messages sent to humanity without a specific recipient, they hide the concept of "absence-essence".
Today my artistic research is directed towards the content of invisible matter, my new works are born from micro-paintings, made on small acetate rectangles, mounted on 24x36 mm slide frames and then post-digitized to create different solutions in print even on light panels and I do not use AI. I use recycled materials that I mix together, organic micro elements and micro plastics. Each micro painting is new and unrepeatable because the waste is taken, mixed, treated, enlarged, studied and dissected in order to show its deepest essence. The image is encrypted as in a production process, distorting its peculiar intended use and blocking any form of food waste in a creative microcosm where the elements mix thanks to the elements "of" and "in" nature. The work can be printed in plotter or projected even at large dimensions.
Micropaintings are born as luminous containers, defined as “microcosms”, they shed light on the close and delicate relationship between man and the environment. The creation of micropaintings made with organic and inorganic waste are reused to create light generators. The installations aim to make us reflect on the problem of food waste and plastic recycling; a pathological abundance, a pleasure, an obsession and waste of industrialized countries.
