Alba Bertagnolli Hemingway was born in Merano, Italy, and lives and works in Rome.

Drawn to art and beauty from an early age, she has made inner exploration the guiding thread of her life, pursuing a path of self-discovery driven by the desire to come ever closer to her authentic nature.

This journey inevitably involves confronting one's shadows, fears, and contradictions, while also recognising that even darkness can become a gateway to a deeper, more luminous dimension of being.

Her artistic training includes studies in material-based and experimental painting at the Scuola di Arti e Mestieri in Rome and at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts, complemented by further artistic training and experimentation in independent painting studios.

Painting thus becomes part of a broader personal journey in which art is not merely a form of aesthetic expression, but a means of self-knowledge and transformation, an opportunity to encounter the deeper Self and a more expansive dimension of existence.

Her creative process emerges from an attentive awareness of the present moment and its psychological, emotional, and bodily resonances. Emotions, above all, are the driving force behind her work, finding expression through colour, gesture, material, and form.

Through the act of painting, even what initially appears as tension, conflict, or limitation can be transformed into openness, giving rise to new possibilities of perception and experience.

Painting becomes a space of freedom in which the artist can move through and transform her inner experience, until the separation between herself and the work begins to dissolve. Colour, gesture, and material are no longer merely expressive means, but elements of an experience of unity, in which the creative act becomes a form of presence and artistic exploration merges with the search for the Self.
