Data and contact details

Antonella Quartaroli was born in Rome on October 5, 1961. Her relationship with art and creativity has been evident since childhood.

In 1986, she enrolled in the “Scarabocchio” course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she studied theory of perception and psychology of form.

During the same period, she attended the Wilson Dance School, where, under the guidance of internationally renowned teacher Caterina Costa, she developed a passion for flamenco.

These studies deeply influenced her painting style — instinctive and primal, yet free and disciplined — in a creative process that follows a rhythm of form and color, always eager to experiment and evolve. Her work flows like a musical counterpoint, moving from dance to painting, from flamenco to jazz, and through the rhythm of blues.

A key encounter in her artistic journey was with Maestro Gianpaolo Berto, an esteemed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Their meeting blossomed into a lasting friendship and artistic collaboration. This relationship, marked by mutual respect and exchange, continued until Berto’s passing.

Berto profoundly influenced her method of artistic research, encouraging her to explore new expressive forms and to deepen the connection between pictorial gesture and emotional content. This mentorship enriched her creative vision, reinforcing her free and authentic approach to painting.

Antonella Quartaroli is an active figure in the Roman and international art scene, having participated in numerous collective exhibitions over the years, and winning the 4th edition of the Eureka Prize in 2012.

Always open to change and artistic collaboration, in recent years she has often taken part in the exhibitions and cultural initiatives of the Collettivo Oxford, eventually joining it enthusiastically in 2024, participating in the permanent collective exhibition “Kontemporanea Art On Time,” curated by Mauro Silani, founder of the collective — which also included Maestro Berto.

The Collettivo Oxford

The Collettivo Oxford was founded in January 2018 to unite shared interests in artistic, scientific, and philosophical dissemination, emerging from a series of meetings and symposia held at the Hotel Oxford in Via Boncompagni 89, Rome.

From these meetings, a true artistic movement was born, promoted through a national and international traveling exhibition titled “Archaic and Present” — whose interpretative framework was defined by Maestro Gianpaolo Berto (who was part of Lucio Fontana’s Spazialism) and founder Mauro Silani as “The New Roman Spatialism.”

This term was officially endorsed in a draft manifesto signed by all the artists belonging to the Collettivo Oxford.

The traveling exhibition, which gathers and presents the works of the collective’s artists, represents just the starting point of a broader cultural promotion project to be developed in the regions hosting it. The aim is to open the collective to local artists, fostering virtuous processes of cultural production by involving institutions, associations, and schools.

“We see art and social interaction as the foundations for the regeneration of the cultural and social fabric of cities,” explains Mauro Silani, creator of the project and curator of the exhibition.
“This traveling project means giving a tangible contribution to rebuilding social relationships through art and research, for two main reasons: first, our collective is a true laboratory open to local, national, and international artists; second, in every exhibition we ensure the participation of schools, institutions, and cultural associations, with the ultimate goal of establishing operational centers across Italy and abroad.”
