SYLVIA IRRAZABAL, a long-time and experienced Cultural Manager, graduated in Law from the University of the Republic of Uruguay, a lawyer, with a Master's degree in Advanced European Studies in Rome at the Alcide De Gasperi Post-University Institute and Brussels at the European Economic and Social Committee of the European Union, has been Cultural Secretary of the International Organization IILA, several times Commissioner at the Venice International Art Biennale for the Latin American Pavilion, Director of the Narramerica Literary Series in collaboration with the publishing house Edizioni Fahrenheit 451 and has curated various editions of the IILA Photography Award – International Festival of Rome. She has organized numerous highly significant multidisciplinary cultural projects, such as the First and Second Latin American Spring in Rome, with a series of over fifty initiatives over a two-year period, ranging from art exhibitions to concerts, literary spaces, and Latin American film festivals, in collaboration with the Municipality of Rome, Zetema-Progetto Cultura, and the accredited Latin American embassies in Italy.
She curated the exhibition "Eternal City, Eternal Marbles" by Maestro Pablo Atchugarry, who displayed his sculptural works at Trajan's Market in Rome. The exhibition, which ran from May 22nd to February 7th, 2016, at the Museum of the Imperial Forums - Trajan's Market, saw the Uruguayan artist's works dialogue with ancient architecture, particularly with marble, which found its ideal setting, creating a union between ancient and contemporary art. She has recently curated numerous solo and group exhibitions at various galleries in Rome and Lazio.
She lives and works in Rome, where she served as Cultural Attaché for the Uruguayan Embassy in Italy for 28 years. She is active in the fields of visual arts, musical, and literary events.
