Data and contact details

Galleria La Nica was born in Rome in 2017 from the passion of an all-female team. "La nica", which in Sicilian slang means "the little", refers to the origins and age of the director Maria Vittoria Marchetta, but it also connected to the figure of Nike, the Winged Victory, thus composing a semantic game of references.

After its first year of exhibition activity in Rome, La Nica moved temporarily to Palermo, Italian Capital of Culture 2018 and also chosen city to host the 12th edition of Manifesta Biennal. In May 2019, La Nica reopened its Roman branch in the historic Via dei Banchi Nuovi, a few steps away from Piazza Navona.

The purpose of La Nica is to promote an innovative space for dialogue in which to welcome and share with different audiences the art of contemporary matrix, from national to international, from the best known expressions to those which have finished into the background of the art world despite their importance. The idea is also to become a "small" reality aimed at supporting the thought and the work of young emerging artists. The hope is to grow together over time and become more and more the stage of an art that, beyond the limits of time and space, wanted and will still want to question itself and the world.

In 2020, La Nica became the first Italian art gallery to be certified with Bollino Etico Sociale®, a method for the development and enhancement of social innovation actions with a positive impact. In the same vein, in 2021 La Nica, in collaboration with La Striscia in Arezzo, launched the first edition of EcoLogicArt, a free contest addressed to artists under 35 and dedicated to sustainability in art.
