SANDRO SANNA - short biographical note

 Sandro Sanna was born in Macomer, Sardinia in 1950, in 1965 he moved to Rome where he currently lives and works. From the beginning his poetics questions the concept of changeability and provisionality of the existing and the impossibility of grasping certainties.. Among the many exhibitions in Italy and abroad are:  the X Quadriennale d'Arte in Rome in 1975,  the Biennale d'Arte Città di Milano in 1989 and 1993;  the Premio Marche in 1990; in 1987 and 1990 a personal exhibition in the Galleria Giulia in Rome with La luce formante. In 1997 he was invited to l’Arte a Roma, where he received the prize “Acquisto” of the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art. In 1998 a personal exhibition at the Laboratorio Museum, Sapienza University of Rome.  In 2000 an extensive personal exhibition at the Palazzo De Riso Gagliardi, Vibo Valentia; in 2001, 8th Cairo International Biennial and in the Municipal Art Gallery of Ciampino (Rm) proposes the installation Cosmogonia 2001). In 2003, on behalf of ACEA and the Municipality of Rome, he created for Piazza Re di Roma the work in steel and lights "Meteora". It is from 2004 the anthology at the National Museum of Art of Romania, Royal Palace, Bucharest and in the National Museum of Art of Moldova in Chisinau. In 2005 he participated in the Universal Exposition of Aichi, he was present in the United States with a personal exhibition by the MAE, in the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington. In 2006 in China, in Beijing and Shanghai, he participated in "Natura e Metamorfosi " and later in Lights On at the Artiscope Gallery in Brussells. He participates in 2008 at the exhibition "Mito e Velocita", Kremlin Stables, Moscow. In 2010 he received the  Leonardo Paterna Baldizzi Prize for sculpture from the Accademia dei Lincei. In 2011 he participated in Percorsi riscoperti dell’arte italiana nella VAF- Stiftung 1947-2010 at the MART in Rovereto, at The Farnesina Palace and its collections, Ara Pacis Museum in Rome and at the 54th Venice Biennale. In 2012 La Luce Oscura della Materia, double artist exhibition, Sandro Sanna-Roberto Almagno, Museo Carlo Bilotti, Rome; A personal exhibition at the Pièce Unique Gallery in Beirut, Lebanon. In 2013 Universi Vibranti, sola exibition, Arte Cortina di Milano. 2015 a Mare, personal exhibition, Tralevolte, Rome. In 2017 " geometria danatureza" personal exhibition at the IIC in Lisbon; he participates in Il Cammino delle Certose, Certosa di San Lorenzo, Padula (SA).  The artist's works are present in public and private collections, among which we remember: the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the MACRO in Rome, the permanent collection of the Farnesina MAECI, Rome, Palazzo Venezia in Rome, the MART of Rovereto, the VAF-Stiftung Foundation of Frankfurt, ZEJIANG Art Museum – Hangzhou, China.
