NITIDO-Exhibition & Body Art was founded in 2023 based on an idea by Giorgia Loccarini, who established a contemporary art gallery with an adjoining Studio/Lab in Monteverde/Colli Portuensi neighbourhood of Rome. It is an exhibition and performance space entirely devoted to the body and its expressive demands, dialogically hybridized through constantly evolving languages. Here, the body becomes the protagonist of a progressive redefinition of the complex ontological boundaries of Body Art, declining itself as iconological subject of a broader system of aestheticizing signs. In this regard, alongside the well-known expressive forms of painting, sculpture and video art, NITIDO also promotes and hosts the practice of Tattooing, Body Piercing and Body Suspension, all re-contextualized in their performative dialectic. The main concept of the Gallery thus translates into the fruition of an ideal experimental laboratory, where the body stages itself, far beyond its own contingency, reaffirming itself as a place where ethical and social instances concerning its ideological sphere are being renewed with ever-increasing urgency.
