Amandine de Mascarel is a painter based in Rome. Born in Seoul and raised in France, her work is marked by a particular sensitivity to the discontinuity and instability of meaning. After living in Nairobi, Paris, Johannesburg, Hong Kong, and London, she studied painting at the City & Guilds of London Art School.
His practice focuses on the moment when an image begins to come to life without fully resolving. Through layering, reduction, and measurement, he develops surfaces in which forms emerge, assert themselves, yet remain suspended. The paintings resist narration and unambiguous interpretation, maintaining a tension between presence and uncertainty.
His most recent works explore how little is needed for a painting to exist without needing to justify itself, while simultaneously preserving openness and doubt. His approach is based on repetition, attention, and the gradual construction of a visual language that appears both inevitable and unresolved.
